Incredible opportunity to be our first UX Researcher and help embed the discipline within the design process. You will work with the Octopus Design Team and shape the online presence and digital experience for our 100k customers.

We have a team of Service Designers, UX designers and UI designers, all digital natives, who are helping turn Octopus into the leading tech-enabled financial services company in the UK. We run design sprints and hold Design Thinking workshops throughout the business. What are we missing? You!

The ambitious team wants to define the definitive visual language through which FinTech is communicated, not just for Octopus, but for all Financial Services.

Our design team work closely with Product Managers, who run SCRUM development teams to deliver constant changes and improvements across all our platforms.

As a UX Researcher, you will be responsible for:

  • Running usability tests to see how users interact with the current system.
  • Developing user surveys to get information from potential users.
  • Undertaking heuristic and expert audits of systems.
  • Shadowing users during their normal work activities to see how they interact with the systems and under what context.
  • Documenting Customer Journeys, Top Tasks and other deliverables that will support the design and development of the system.
  • At times, undertake a Business Analysis role, and identify the business requirements for a new system.


  • You are a digital native.
  • You have extensive experience with Service Design & UX Research.
  • You love understanding people and their motivations.
  • You're obsessed with Human Computer Interface Design.
  • You have a background in cognitive science, anthropology or psychology.
  • You like to roll your sleeves up and get stuff done.
  • You're humble, and surround yourself by people better than you.

This position requires you to work from our offices in Central London. However we do offer flexible working hours and have a work-from-home policy.
