About Octopus

Octopus is a fast-growing company with more than 500 employees. Since we launched in 2000, we’ve established market leading positions across financial services, healthcare and energy.

The Octopus Group incorporates Octopus Energy, Octopus Healthcare, Octopus Investments, Octopus Property, Octopus Ventures and Octopus Labs.

Octopus Labs is the fintech innovation unit of the Octopus Group. We fuse track record and technology, expertise and UX, to build financial products the way they should be: trustworthy, rewarding and easy-to-use.

We’re not your typical financial services company. We want to change the world of finance for the better, with easy-to-use products and services that help people to manage their money. We combine established financial expertise with cutting-edge technology to build smart, simple and disruptive fintech solutions for the mass market – like Octopus Choice and Octopus Cash.

18 months ago, we launched our first product, a peer-to-peer lending platform called Octopus Choice. We now have over 5,000 customers who have together invested more than £110 million, and are growing at a rapid pace.

Working at Octopus Labs provides an opportunity to combine the exciting pace and confidence of a start-up, with the broader benefits of a large, well-capitalised business that manages more than £7 billion on behalf of over 100,000 customers.

About the role

Our products are designed to be smart, simple and disruptive fintech solutions. There’s Octopus Choice, our multi award winning take on peer-to-peer lending, which invests users’ money in loans backed by bricks and mortar. And Octopus Cash, a smart savings service that helps consumers beat the high-street, and cut the hassle of switching.

The role would be perfect for a candidate with solid experience in the regulated sector looking for a new challenge and the chance to work in a fast paced tech start-up environment whilst retaining the benefits of being a part of a large, well-capitalised business. You’ll be joining the Risk and Compliance Director and Compliance Monitoring Associate as an integral part of the broader Choice and Cash team as we scale the two businesses.

We work collaboratively in an agile way that that characterises dynamic environment you’d expect in the start-up world coupled with the perks of a corporate job like 27 days holiday, bonus, subsided canteen and gym, flexible working and health insurance.

What you’ll be doing:

  • This is not your bog standard tick box compliance role. As a Compliance Manager in the Fintech sector, you will be responsible for helping our most exiting businesses to retain and maintain their licenses to operate.
  • Championing our open, customer centric culture, you’ll be helping to build valuable, sustainable businesses by ensuring that we’re meeting our legal and regulatory requirements.
  • You will be a quick learner!
  • Additionally, with Octopus’ focus on process automation and digitisation in mind, you’ll constantly be helping to design and improve the way that we keep our customers’ money safe, prevent and detect fraud and money laundering and keep our data secure. In time you will become an expert in managing risk in digital businesses.

What we’re looking for:

  • You should be the kind of nerdy one among your friends who actually enjoys devouring piles of boring rules and regulations regurgitating them as something easily digestible.
  • You must be a savvy problem solver who loves a challenge and approaches new problems with enthusiasm.
  • You must also be a quick learner with the ability to work using your own initiative.
  • Minimum 2:1 in law, accountancy, business or similar (or equivalent).
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a regulatory environment ideally.
