About Octopus

We’re not your typical financial services company. We want to change the world of finance for the better, with simple, jargon-free solutions that do what they say they will. Our products take traditional financial services know how and combine that with forward thinking technology and design principles

What?

We are looking for someone to own the Octopus Academy, a brand new in-house Fintech apprenticeship. We want to take the next steps of our journey. Octopus is committed to embracing the increasing power of technology over the coming decade. Whether that comes from simple automation or the more glamorous areas of machine learning and AI the opportunities within the Group are huge

To take advantage of these opportunities we have launched the Octopus Academy to train the next generation of financial services professionals in all areas of “Fintech”.

The programme is running through the first ever cohort. And the challenge is to take this from a small idea to a fully fledged digital training program. We will train and develop a mix of internal and external candidates through both the technical and soft skills required to operate within a high growth financial services, energy and healthcare group. It will include:

  • Academic study, guest lectures, case studies
  • This will be delivered alongside applied learning within one of the Octopus group of companies or products
  • The content will be wide and varied and will cover both technical, analytical, commercial, legal and strategic elements but throughout all of this the curriculum will be based on real world experiences and will be teaching real skills.
  • We see it as an apprenticeship. But the apprentices will be building products from scratch, running analytics exercises, building tools for the business - and loads of other cool stuff

Responsibilities:

This role will take ownership for the strategic direction and delivery of the program and as such there will be a lot of creative freedom to shape and develop the approach, structure and content, but there is a lot of hands on organisation as well - its not all glamorous! This is very early stage with no initial support so a roll up the sleeves mentality is critical:

  • A deep passions for helping people develop and grow
  • Helping take the existing curriculum framework and refining it
  • Continuing to develop bespoke Octopus course content based on feedback
  • Working with partners to integrate external content into the program
  • Contact and develop a selection of guest lecturers around core areas of the curriculum
  • Help define and manage the project and new product build part of the course
  • Build a constant pipeline of high potential candidates to be a part of the Academy.
  • Arrange events to build hype
  • Build out content e.g. case studies, films, social media to drive awareness
  • Look for potential external partners to help scale the Academy - should we be helping 1000s of people across the UK, should the Academy become a stand alone social enterprise, should we be applying for government involvement, could we turn the Academy into a new digital consultancy model and flexible resourcing tool for UK startups and scale-ups? SO MANY IDEAS AND QUESTIONS!!
