About Octopus

Octopus is a fast-growing company with more than 500 employees. Since we launched in 2000, we’ve established market leading positions across financial services, healthcare and energy.

The Octopus Group incorporates Octopus Energy, Octopus Healthcare, Octopus Investments, Octopus Property, Octopus Ventures and Octopus Labs.

Octopus Labs is the fintech innovation unit of the Octopus Group. We fuse track record and technology, expertise and UX, to build financial products the way they should be: trustworthy, rewarding and easy-to-use.

We’re not your typical financial services company. We want to change the world of finance for the better, with easy-to-use products and services that help people to manage their money. We combine established financial expertise with cutting-edge technology to build smart, simple and disruptive fintech solutions for the mass market – like Octopus Choice and Octopus Cash.

18 months ago, we launched our first product, a peer-to-peer lending platform called Octopus Choice. We now have over 5,000 customers who have together invested more than £110 million, and are growing at a rapid pace.

Working at Octopus Labs provides an opportunity to combine the exciting pace and confidence of a start-up, with the broader benefits of a large, well-capitalised business that manages more than £7 billion on behalf of over 100,000 customers.

About the role

We have a great opportunity for an analytical, energetic and results-oriented data analyst to join us at Octopus Labs, as we enter a rapid phase of acquisition and growth across our products. You’ll be involved in the full range of data analytics activities, working with internal teams to generate insights that drive growth initiatives and influence business decisions.

What you’ll be doing: essential job functions

  • Apply your expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining and visualisation to see beyond the numbers and understand how our users interact with our products.
  • Leverage data to produce in-depth analyses of our products, identify areas of opportunity, and support projects that drive acquisition, engagement and retention.
  • Work closely with design, product, and development teams to influence what to build in the next roadmap.
  • Use data-driven insights to more effectively segment our customer base – and help brainstorm, plan and develop new growth initiatives to target them.
  • Build and automate analyses across different applications to empower operational and business owners.
  • Build, maintain and analyse dashboards that display growth metrics, user behaviour, and effectiveness of marketing campaigns.
  • Spread best practices within analytics and product teams.

What we’re looking for: job specific skills and experience

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, curious and quantitative individual who loves bringing shape and rigour to a vision and ensure stuff gets done. You’ll be the kind of person who:

  • Has superb analytical skills, good experience of conducting quantitative analysis and generating insights for stakeholders. You’ll like to find order within chaos, and be methodical in your problem solving.
  • Has a quantitative or technical background, some experience of working with large data sets, and exposure to data-driven decision making.
  • Is a scrappy self-starter who is focused on delivering results, and has demonstrated success in using analytics to drive the understanding, growth, and success of a product.
  • Has excellent stakeholder management skills – empathy is a must. We’re a friendly bunch, and are looking for someone who can keep others to their word, but always in a genuinely friendly and optimistic way.
  • Has some experience in SQL and Python, who is looking to take the next step on their career in a high-growth, start-up environment.
  • The ability to learn fast, pick up new processes quickly as well as take on board and understand product information and features.
  • A strong and flexible work ethic. You should be capable of using initiative but will have an outgoing personality who will be at home in a young, dynamic, fast-paced and energetic team.

Be helpful: random acts of kindness make the workplace a better place so, go out of your way to be helpful, and give people reasons to smile.

Be straightforward: life is complicated enough. Don’t make it harder for yourself, or for others. Sometimes the simplest approach works wonders.

Be bold: every great business started with a flash of inspiration. If you’ve got a great idea, don’t keep it to yourself
